Our Bakery
Everything we do starts with great bread — made fresh daily, with care and craft. From there, we build the food, flavors, and experiences that bring people together, whether at your table or ours.
How It Started
Mighty Bread opened a small bakery in 2017, on a quiet side street in South Philadelphia. If you’ve visited and seen our courtyard, that’s where it all began; a single door, a tiny waiting area, and a big dream. We were thrilled to welcome our friends and neighbors on those early Saturday bake days, and humbled to see them line up — rain, shine, or snow — for a loaf of Country Sourdough or an Orange Ricotta Teacake.
In early 2021, during the COVID pandemic, we kept baking and found new ways to serve our community. We sold loaves of bread through our single window on Gerritt Street, gave away sourdough starter (still do — just ask at the counter!), and became a pick-up spot for grocery and pantry items sourced from local partners, to help provide for our neighbors.
How We’ve Grown
What began as a passion project steadily grew, and we expanded our space in 2021, opening the doors to our café. We introduced a full menu of seasonally inspired, thoughtfully crafted dishes, to complement our sourdough breads, cookies and pastries.
We serve breakfast and lunch on weekdays and weekends, where you’ll find neighbors grabbing morning coffee, friends and families enjoying brunch, and little ones peeking into the pastry case. Our marketplace shelves and cases are filled with a wide variety of “things that go with bread” (or are inspired by it). From gourmet ingredients and books to tasty treats, bread-themed stuffies, and local artwork, there’s something for every bread lover.
In the late afternoon, our Aperitivo happy hour is the perfect way to unwind with small plates, beer, wine, or cocktails — including our own Mighty Bread beers, Amici del Pane and Polentone.
In the fall of 2025, we opened our second location at 17th and Pine Street: Mighty Bread Grab & Go. It’s a cozy outpost offering bread, pastries, coffee, sandwiches and pantry items.
How We Do It
Mighty Bread is powered by a team of dedicated, talented, and creative people who care deeply about what they do. From those who arrive well before dawn to bake and cook, to folks who greet you at the counter, and those keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes, they all play an important role in creating the warm, welcoming experience our guests know and love.
(We're always looking for passionate people to join our team!)
Our Local Partners
We’re proud to source many of our ingredients from local farms, roasters, and makers who share our commitment to quality and community. Supporting small, independent producers is an important part of what we do. Their hard work and passion inspire us daily — and help us keep our menu as local, fresh, and flavorful as possible. Here are just a few of the incredible local partners we’re fortunate to work with:
| Birchrun Hills Farm | Fifth Month Farm | Herman's Coffee |
| Cannuli's Meats | Fruitwood Orchards Honey | Horseshoe Ranch |
| Cocco's Gelato | Good Good Chocolates | Mood's Farm Market |
Beyond Our Stores
You can find Mighty Bread all across the Philadelphia area, in coffee shops, restaurants, cafes and at gourmet grocers — all places that share our love of good food and community.
And when it’s time to gather for celebrations, meetings, or everyday moments, our catering lets you enjoy a little bit of Mighty Bread, wherever you are.
